Reinstalling XP on this old Dell Inspiron 1150, everything works fine but I just cannot open IE, the following notepad opens instead. What's wrong?

It's trying to tell you something

But seriously, double-check the shortcut you're using to open IE, or find iexplore.exe and open that.

Did you do a clean install or install over XP?? Looks like you installed over XP, or something on your XP install cd is stuffed / your file associations have been screwed somehow

I was using a slipstreamed SP3 with IE7 CD for the clean install. The problem should be with the IE7 which I remember used to cause problem. Dug out my old collections and found a IE-runonce.reg registry patch, ran it and got back my IE. :)

Ah ha that explains it. There is an addon / update ( so once you slipstream it with Nlite, and this (http://integrator.siginetsoftware.com/index.php?download) ) everything gets installed. Inc IE8, WMP 11, and all the .Net files. Once, you create / burn the ISO. Then boot from it. A lot easier than installing everything separately after you install XP.

Why do we have to be such p r i c k s, the person wants help not stupidity.

We always appreciate the help that Speedy gives without hesitation.

Good comment, Lurking. But if we bag something, even long after substantial beneficial changes have been made, we show just how smart, clever and superior we are (not).

And don't ever admit you are using Vista.
