Go to your Amazon account and remove it through "manage your Kindle" option

From another kindle help site:
If you have deleted the ebook from Amazon's servers through your account there, you can make the ebook disappear from Kindle for PC by syncing. This can be done in one of three ways from within the Kindle for PC program:

Go to Tools and then select "Sync and Check for New Items" OR
Press the F5 key OR
Click on the circular arrows just right of the word Library
Note that your computer will need to have an internet connection in order for the program to sync with Amazon's servers. Also, if you delete an ebook from Amazon's servers, it's gone. If you ever want to read it again, you will need to repurchase it.

From another kindle help site:Thanks for that info' but unfortunately that doesn't enable deletion of books from the Kindle for Desktop. I should have said that I do not have a Kindle but there should be some means of deletion. It appears that there is not. I appreciate your trouble in trying to help.

Why not just delete them via Windows Explorer?

Right click on the desired title and choose "Remove from Device" from the list.

Have you tried Windows Explorer yet?Yes, but it didn't help unfortunately. I now know how it should be done, but it is not doing what it should do.
I have come to the conclusion that my program is faulty and probably will need to be reinstalled.
