I have a guts full of Orcon Genius.
How is Telecom performing these days?

Not too badly, both in phone and broadband :)

I've been over the moon with VDSL2 so I'm just telling everybody about it, even though it costs a bit more than ADSL2+, I know it's not for everybody, but I can't help it ;)

What's wrong with Genius though? This doesn't have anything to do with it does it? http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/showthread.php?123303

Chill, is your VDSL2 through Telecom, or another ISP?

On topic, my ADSL2 connection with Telecom has been fine, I've had no real issues with Telecom for several years now.

Nah VDSL2 is through HD.net.nz, not through Telecom :)

Elsewhere there are a lot of complaints.

Probably like Xnets VOIP - if it worked, it worked, if it didn't for you, forget it, go round in circles going crazy from the lack of fix....

We use Xnet VoIP and have done for 2 years it works excellently for us here in Nelson

The problem with Orcon genius is that the phone is always unreliable. Reports "line engaaged" or "call diversion enabled" or "extension is engaged" wnen you ring out. Incoming calls ring the phone but silence when picked up. I am pretty sure that the Modem is faulty but for some reason they will not replace it. If you reset the Modem the phone works for abot 10 minutes.
I am using Skype at the moment to call out.
The Broadband is quite reasonable at the moment, 14Mbps & 8Mbps 7 quite smooth.
Every time I contact orcon I get a new tech and have to start again!
They sent a courier bag to return the dud modem about 3 months ago, but no sign of a replacement.

I am with Telecom, no complaints. It is as good (or bad) as any other ISPs in NZ.

I like their 24/7 helpdesk support which not many other ISPs can provide.
