^This.

Windows XP has absolutely no relation to DOS whatsoever, apart from the fact they're both made by Microsoft, so there's no such thing as real mode DOS in Windows XP.

(Windows 9x was effectively DOS with a GUI)

Here's some useful info on Doom in Windows XP/7: http://www.doomworld.com/vb/doom-general/18077-read-this-doom-on-windows-steam/

If you use Dosbox, I'd recommend you use a GUI front-end for it, much easier to set up

I use Ampshell (not listed on above site)

Why not a bootable Dos floppy/CD & a small Fat32 partition ??

If you want the original experience, get a 2nd HDD or such and install actual DOS, or use DOSBox.

Or for a 'better' experience, use this: http://www.dosgamers.com/dos/dos-games/doom-heretic-hexen
