At the risk of starting another round of "those guys don't know what they're talking about" - here is a recent salary survey reported in Computerworld.

As Service Desk always seems to be the contentious one, says $45k - $55K in this one - which again seems about right to me.

Here are the ranges for Auckland and Wellington

Auckland (http://computerworld.co.nz/cw/Files/IT_Salary_Survey_2011-Auckland.pdf)

Wellington (http://computerworld.co.nz/cw/Files/IT_Salary_Survey_2011-Wellington.pdf)

Looking for Oracle DBA's and Middleware Specialists (with Web Logic background preferably) if anyone out there fits the bill, drop me a line.

Contract rates seem what I was getting offered - the lower end that is.

Permanent, I think it's high, no-one offered me that...and it can depend anyway.

Here, it's a smaller private co, and it's not bad, about what I expected.

The one before - they were a large Govt dept, and the pay there was about what I expected - quite a lot more than here.

Seems normal...

I often wonder where these numbers come from

I find this one hard to believe .
"HelpDesk/DesktopSupport.. $45-50k"
You get some VERY highly qualified & experienced people appling for low end jobs(with low end pay )
