Is this machine a new build? If it is, then you may need to test out the ram. MemTest (http://www.memtest.org/)is a good app to stress test the ram module. Had similar issue couple of years back, normal OS operation is fine, once I get into gaming situation, it will do a random restart, used MemTest and found it was faulty, replaced the ram and all was fine.

As well, the HJK entry:

O23 - Service: KZAJZ - Unknown owner - C:\Users\steve\AppData\Local\Temp\KZAJZ.exe (file missing)

This looks a bit odd, may want it removed.

Or....overheating.
Or...........GPU.

Yeah, I'd go with overheating. Bitching CPU, piddly GPU. Either way, it's likely one of them is working very hard, and getting HOT!

I'll second pctek and Paul.Cov's thoughts, download and run Speccy:
http://www.piriform.com/speccy

Fire up a game, play it for a few seconds, then switch back and check your CPU / GPU temperatures in comparison to before you started the game. Should give you a good indication.

Thanks speedy, paul cov and ccf, have fixed your suggestions via hijack this.

Chilling silence: i did as you suggested and it was my cpu that was overheating. Went from 39deg in surfing mode to 78ish in gaming mode. I pulled it apart, gave it a clean out and now it seems to be running at between 49 and 60 deg.

Excellent! Amazing what a little dust can do ;)
