According to this (http://www.ehow.com/how_7289868_replace-microsoft-professional-xp-disk.html), one can easily create an OEM XP disk.

Has anyone ever successfully created one?

Done it Via the i386 folder doing a repair install, and that works fine, but I actually done it Via command prompt. Never tried a full fresh install though.

Was the CD bootable?

The repair Install I have done several times was via safe mode /command prompt. The reason I used the existing i386 folder on the PC was I didn't have a windows CD that would taek the product key, ( name brand PC's and XP Pro)

Heres How:

Reboot the PC in Safe Mode with command Prompt ,You should then have something like C: documents and settings\your name\

Type in CD C:\I386 <Enter>

Type in winnt32.exe <Enter>

Agree to anything, this should then reinstall windows as doing a repair install.

Creating an actual bootable CD from scratch is a different matter, as the exe file and associated required files will not autorun like normal windows CD.

Apparently it can be done though -- I found This article (http://www.ehow.com/how_5189197_make-win-xp-bootable-cd.html) a while back, but have never tried it, so no idea if it actually works or not.
