Take the URL which will be something like www.youtube.com/?v=123456 and replace the "www." with "save", you you get "saveyoutube.com/?v=123456"

Easy ;)

Just wondering, but isnt it illegal to download directly from YouTube? I might be mistaken with that Bill S.978 thing :P.

If you just want the music, there are many quick online converters. It says in the T&C's that you will not download the video unless a link to do so is provided. However that's slightly flawed as to watch the video you have to download it into cache anyway.

(If only i knew how to quote only a certain sentence...)

Makes sense. Considering a download link comes up when you like the vid..unless thats just a link to share..although that doesnt make sense..there IS a URL after all :illogical

Legality depends on what you're watching / saving from there.

Having a stack of music videos on your hard drive from youtube would be fine though wouldn't it? Saves internet in the long run and Im not aware of any musicians charging people to watch their videos???

Nope, AFAIK not legal in NZ... Unless you have explicit permission from the copyright holder.

DownloadHelper (http://www.downloadhelper.net/) addon for Firefox. Can download and do conversions for you.

Works on a lot of other video sites too.

I use JDownloader, just start playing the video on youtube, tab across to JDownloader and it will have automatically discovered every different version of the video (240p, 480,720p etc.) as well as the different formats the video is available in (.fla, mp4 maybe some others too?). It also has a way to get only the audio tracks. The main thing you have to remember with this is to delete the versions of the video that you don't want to download before you proceed or you will waste all your bandwidth in no time.
