I have just installed a second SATA hard drive but it fails to show up as a drive.

It shows up in my "Device Manager" and indicates its working properly.

The new Samsung HD 103SJ drive shows up in the CMOS along with my existing drive. Note. The new drive does not show up as the slave drive which I think it should be.

With the SATA cable connection to the new drive or the mother board there seems to be no room for jumper configuration as there is with older ATA hard drive connections

My system has windows VISTA, Gigabite S-series motherboard

Any suggestions please?

Sata drives are not jumpered like the IDEs are.

Have a look under disk management, if the drive is brand new you probably need to format it and assign a drive letter for it to show up in My Computer.

If its new, go to disk management and format it

Go to the windows button and click, right click on computer and select manage, then click on disk management

If all is good there should be a drive that has no partition, right click on it and follow the prompts :)

EDIT: quick format should be sufficent

I went into dick management etc and clicked on the new drive to "New Simple Volume"
I assigned a new drive letter and am doing the format. Unfortuneately I didnt do Quick one.
The new drive is currently doing the full format.
I assume this will do the trick.
If not I will post what went wrong
Thanks guys
