Lenovo ThinkCentre MT-M8808-AV8

Reinstalled XP Pro onto this old machine only to find that cannnot install the Broadcom ethernet driver with the following error:

"The hardware Update Wizard could not find the software on your computer"

Pretty sure I downloaded the correct driver from Lenovo site (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-67073). All other drivers, namely, chipset, audio, and video drivers work perfectly.

What could be the reason?

Did you try to install it Via the device manager or from a EXE.

What does the html say : Detailed installation notes are available by opening the index.htm file in the following directory: C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\ethernet\Q3ETN14US13\Manuals\En glish

Trying to install from device manager as there isn't any .exe setup file.

The instruction says that I have to download the driver from this link: http:/www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet.nic/downloaddrivers.php
which I did but still could not be installed.

Could it be a defective hardware?

That PC has an intel driver.

This one.

http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/thinkcentre_drivers/c2etn03us17.exe

make sure the broadcom driver is gone before installing that one.

it will unzip to c:\swtools\longname....

Go to the device manager, choose update the ethernet driver and browse to the folder. You may need to try a few different folders its not super obvious which is the right one if i remember rightly.

did you manage to find drivers for the random PCI devices? these are normally related to the intel AMT, i've got the drivers I can email if you need.

Yup, got the LAN driver sorted. It's indeed an Intel driver! Out of curiosity, (to rule out hardware problem) I installed Win7 (to try out) and it detected and installed the driver as Intel82566DM Gigabit and downloaded from Intel site. Went back to XP Pro and it works fine.

wratterus, still trying to sort out the PCI Serial Port and PCI Simple Communication Controller (isn't this modem, but what the heck, there isn't any modem installed?)

Yep - these are for the Intel AMT. Got your PM. :)

Edit - just download this file. Will be easier. :p

No problem, good to hear.

I've said this before, but I'm not much of a fan of Lenovo's new support site. If you know exactly what you're looking for it's not too bad, but they have a ton of stuff you don't want or need, with the important stuff randomly interspersed between the junk.
