View Full Version : Microsoft XP vs Windows 98

I am about to purchase a 2nd home computer system for the kids - mostly games & applications. This computer will NOT be connected to the Internet as this one already is. Is it worth getting XP if the computer will not be internet capable? Should I get it anyway (for the future?) Should I wait for the bugs to be gotten out of XP - like 12 months down the track?
Any advise or recommendations would be appreciated.

If its just for games stick with 98, its still the best games OS unfortunatly.

Games won't start to require XP for a while so save your money.

I doubt any of the bugs in XP will affect you too much, but as they say, wait for the first 'service pack'.

I have been running XP as my sole operating system and seems OK with games but I believe it may not be compatible with older dos based games.

Guess it depends what games you want to use on it.

As for applications I have run most major apps without a problem, except for Symantec products.

The new visual styles would probably appeal to the kids more.

You can have a pretty login page, and restrict their rights, so they cannot modify program installation.

Wayyyyy more stable, My windowsXP Professional hasn't crashed once yet.
