First - this isn't a technical question, kinda just cruising for some information really.

I like to listen to foreign radio streams (maybe even youse guys Radio NZ station) once in a while.

I'm trying to learn a foreign language, and Kiwi qualifies for extra credit at the college level here in the US.

Actually ANY English qualifies in Californicate.

Is there any place to find a small stand-alone program that lets me play such a stream and it will shut down the whole PC after a preset time?

Kinda like a reverse alarm clock. Subliminal education, here I come!

You can do it with windows out of the box, just use the shutdown command with a -t switch and put what ever time (mind you it's in seconds)

If you go start/run and type in shutdown /? it will show you how to use it. you would do something like a shutdown -f -s -t 10000

Switch Off (http://download.cnet.com/Switch-Off/3000-2344_4-10056977.html) was one I used. But don't know what could be used to start up a internet service/stream which I think you also want. Probably need a script, custom player, or signing up to a service or something. SHOUTcast (http://www.shoutcast.com/) might have addons in their developer section if it suits.

I sometimes use the create shortcut option: shudown -s -t 50 -c. 50 is how many seconds. I think it goes like that, kind of like what Alex said.

Just use Win ME or Vista.
They are especially adept at shutting down. ;)

So you say, we can't remember that far back!
Do you turn a handle when phoning?

Nope - I hop on the roof and waggle flags. A Spam-free service.

Birds?

Snipers?

Looney wagon?

A lot of things can spam semaphore flags.

The shutdown program of mine still works. I've dumbed it down as far as I can.

Is that just a "NOW-OFF" program though?

I want to be able to set it as a timer so that when I fall asleep, it'll only let the puter run for x-minutes.

Say I wanna get a 2 hour delay and then off - do-able?

I hate waking up with the big blue eye still running and a screen saver going and the music/stream is long died.

No, you set the Shutdown time and click Start. If you do it at the same time each day, you can save the setting.

OK - gonna take a look at it.

Say ---- this isn't a Linux-thing - is it? You know how badly I can screw up something L-based.
