My PC has a Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-9 mobo, and has PC3200 DDR SDRAM according to an Everest report. Could any of the experts here please confirm that A-Data AD1U400A1G3-B, DDR-400, PC-3200, DIMM would work with this mobo?

Thank you. John

Pretty much any brand PC-3200 would work.

Thank you pctek. I get confused about what SDRAM means in these circumstances, and why this is not mentioned in the descriptor on the Ascent website for the A-Data PC-3200. And Ascent could not guarantee this RAM would work, because they were unable to confirm this - apparently my mobo is too old to appear on the Kingston Memory Configurator. RAM is a total mystery to me.

Check out the Gigabyte site they have memory specs for many of their boards with a full list of what works. I have a computer with a MA785GM-US2H board and it would not run on RAM with identical specs to that on the list, but a different brand. Just a precaution, might save you an extra trip.

Thanks. I was referred to the Gigabyte page for my mobo by Ascent, and can find an associated page that shows which CPUs the mobo will support, but nothing about which RAM it will support. The only reference to RAM is to: 'Type: Dual channel DDR400/ 333/ 266 -184pin Max capacity: Up to 4GB by 4 DIMM slots'. Can you steer me towards the list you refer to?

It was a while ago now , I think it was a was a link from the MB pages on GB. Sounds like your board is not going to give you any problems as they don't specify anything particular about the RAM. edit-Just checked up on my board the revision number for the board has been replaced by a later one.

Thanks for all your help people, as ever! All up and running on 4GB of loverly RAM. Gee that stuff is pesky to get in right, in such a confined space with cords etc all over the place. My hands weren't made to do that sort of thing, and you have to hold your mouth right. Once you get the first one in, the rest are easier. Metaphor for life really. Thanks again.

Two more things I should have said:
1. I ordered this RAM from Ascent yesterday afternoon, order acknowledged by email 3.11pm, status of shipping confirmed 2 mins later, and it arrived here in North Canty before 10am... Ascent service is hard to beat.
2. If anyone wants 4 x 256MB sticks of PC3200 DDR SDRAM for nothing, please PM me.
