Try this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0e-oO6l9kk). Or this (http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f142/solved-ps3-cant-start-correct-hard-disk-not-found-323671.html). It may need some kind of jumper

If it's brand new just take it back and get them to swap it (I'm sure they will when you demonstrate the problem to them)

1) If you start opening it up etc you may lose your warranty

2) since it's brand new, it should not be a jumper problem, it's more likely an actual fault.
