When saving files as JPG most programmes give two options:
Compression and Resolution or subsampling.

It is easy to see what compression does. It reduces the file size with a loss of quality.

But what does Resolution or subsampling do? It also affects file size as High Resolution or YUV 4:4:4 creates a larger file than Medium or YUV 4:2:2, which is in turn larger than Low or YUV 4:1:1. On the screen they appear the same to me so what is the difference?
