I am trying to install a second hard drive (Seagate Barracuda 40GB 7200RPM 100ATA) The first drive is also Barracuda 7200RPM but 20GB 66ATA. The install program says that the Bios does not support a drive this size & installs it as 8.6GB. The install program is Seagates own. I have a Gigabyte 7ZX motherboard with dual bios. The M/B has a Bios introduction date of June 2000 & since then there have been 7 updates listed. Some time prior to deciding to fit 2 drives I flashed the Bios with the latest update. Would this have also installed the earlier updates & would it have flashed both Bios's?? I ask this because one of the earlier ones enabled use of drives in excess of 65GB, & another supported ATA100. This would suggest that the M/B as originally purchased in Sept.2000 was capable of accepting this new drive albeit at 66 not 100. Why am I getting this message & what do I do? The install program is Seagates own. I am running a 700M Duron with 512M 133SDRAM on Windows Me & Iwant to try Linux as well.

When you update your bios, it includes all previous fixes, as it is effectively an 'image' of the latest bios.

you may have to use seagate disk wizard,

Seagate DiscWizard -- http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/drivers/discwiz.html

As I stated in my posting the install program is Seagates own ie: 'Disc wizard' followed by 'Disc manager'

Why use the seagate install at all. Try just setting the bios to auto and see if it detects the hardrive.
