What can't I do in Windows XP that I can do now?
I'm using Win ME and would like to know if I can still(upon upgrading) access a DOS prompt in XP to run ping & tracert commands etc. Is anything else missing? Thanks in advance.

You won't have access to dos mode, and some dos programs won't run in the windows (same as NT/2000)

Ping, netstat and tracert etc are native win32 programs, so they will run under winXP, is probably includes the NT version. (actually I think they are ports or old BSD versions).

With XP I think the issue is more whats included.

So is there a DOS Prompt available in XP to run the ping, netstat and tracert commands? If not, how are the commands executed? (not using 3rd party software) Thanks.

Actually, windowsxp has so much already people are complaining about to much 'crap' 'I don't want IE6, I don't want WMP 8, I don....'

Also, how will the records of the index.dat file be deleted? I have always used the trusty command line: del c:\windows\tempor..... in DOS with Win ME, but this wont be an option with XP will it? Thanks.

Wont you still be able to boot with a floppy, to get the dos prompt and delete things.
