View Full Version : Chrome browser fails, with timeouts

My Chrome Browser on my DELL Inspiron desktop suddenly cannot reach any site at all, not even google.com or gmail.

It always times out (error 118)

I have googled this problem. Many have complained about it.
But of the help posts that I can understand none seem to work.

My DELL notebook has no problems. (Using same modem/router, of course.)

Both are running under Win7.

Any ideas?

I have this all the time since Chrome 14 came out. Take forever for website to start to load.. Don't use it that much at present..

Have you checked if your firewall is blocking it.
Have you tried with IE or another browser
Check the proxy setting, chrome uses the same proxy setting as IE

Love Chrome - have had no issues what-so-ever - hate IE :)

No problems accessing any site with FireFox, IE (yuk) or Safari.

It's just Chrome that has ceased to get through to anywhere.

I do not know how to check "if my firewall is blocking". (It didn't used to.)

My BitDefender says that my firewall is active. But I do not know how to check any specific setting that would bar egress by Chrome.

Is there a setting for the ISP server that could differ for each browser?

BD is probably the cause. Its not the most user friendly firewall around. Disable it. See what happens
