I've had 2 Logitechs where the scroll wheel sort of fails after a while.
1 MX500 and 1 MX518.

Doesn't die totally but scroll becomes intermittent.

Taken apart, nothing obvious so I took the wire clip out and it fixes it.

Doesn't do that firm click type feel when you scroll now, just a smooth scroll but it fixes them.

In case anyone cared - doesn't seem to be a lot on the web about them.

logitech have a great reputation when it comes to repairing or replacing free of charge if its under warranty, often with a better, later model.

Even if it's no longer under warranty, they'll sometimes come to the party ;)

I've always found this problem to be dust and fluff in the gaps of the rotating wheel just blow them out and away you go till the next time it fails.

No fluff. Yes I could have RMAed it, but not really worth it for a intermittent wheel issue.

All happy now, along with the old one I did that too.
