Budget = $200

Current card is Nvidia GT9600 512MB (2 years old) - currently playing Battlefield Bad Company 2, Left 4 Dead 2

Looking at either

EVGA Geforce GTX550 Ti (http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=VGAEVG1550&name=EVGA-GeForce-GTX550-Ti-1G-DDR5-PCI-E-Video-card--%28)
or
Sapphire HD6770 (http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=VGASAP6770&name=Sapphire-HD6770-1G-DD5-PCI-E-Video-card-Dual-link-)

Current PC Specs
i5 2400 Quad Core
Gigabyte P67X mobo
4GB DDR3 Ram
500Watt PSU

Thanks

Since the 6770 is going to be a newer version of my card, I reckon that would be decent, but have a look at a few benchmarks as well. I'm a bit biased towards ATI to be perfectly honest about it, given the solid performance of my card over my experience with the geforce 440mx and 5500fx.

Thanks, I have looked at some reviews online, but thought it would be best to ask people since they have actually used it and can provide better feedback.

well mine gives me pretty solid performance at 1080p for source games, as well as games like the first witcher. Mind you, I don't have my settings too high, since IMO, the resolution takes care of alot of the aliasing in and of itself.

I haven't got anything to kill it with like crysis, but I can attest to it at least giving me performance at a nice price point for what I use it for.

Why do you need a new graphics card ? I have an Nvidia based 8800 GTS 512mb which still runs the latests games ok like Shift2 Unleashed.

The 6770 is nothing but a re-badged 5770....period...

Neither of these cards are any good for 1080 gaming, you should save a couple more bucks and get the GTX460

If you can stretch to $279 (might be cheaper at less reputable stores) then the 5850 kicks the snot out of the 6770/550 Ti...

I'm curious.

Does anyone understand the word BUDGET?

Yes but when you can get almost 100% more performance for only ~40% more outlay it's only responsible to at least make the OP aware of that option :)

But that is not the point is it? You are probably correct as to the relative merits but:-

Budget = $200

Hmm... reading that article it looks like the 6770 wouldn't be able to xfire with the 5770 thanks to the bios.

Bummer that, I was looking at getting another 5770 at some point. But I think my PSU would crap itself. And I have no money anyway. Ohwell.

Thanks for all your input fellas, yes I know $200 will not get me a decent graphics card, as Pablo mentioned the HD5850 is better than the other 2 I was looking at. If I can squeeze out another $80, will probably get the 5850. Thanks again.

Of the two in the OP, the 550Ti for sure. They perform about on par with the 6790, so a noticeable (say 10% average) increase above the 6770. I'm assuming you don't plan to OC etc.

I'd imagine either the 550Ti or 6770 to be around $230 - $240, so an extra $40 - $50 for a 6850 may well be worth thinking about (it's probably another 10% or so above the 550, making it considerably better than the 6770).

I normally shop at PBTech, and nope, not looking to overclock anything. Just for gaming. The HD5850 Extreme = $249 and the HD6850 = $239 .... mmmmmm

As much as I hate to admit it.....$250 for a kick ass DX11 card is a steal!
