Hi
I have a file called New.x that contains

asdf

In folder options, under search, I have checked "Always search file names and contents".

When I search in this folder for the phrase asdf, it says "No items match your search".

When I rename the file to New.txt, it works fine. What gives?
How can I make it look in ALL files?

I know you can do this in XP.

I dont think it looks for txt in a file. It looks for the name of the txt file / file itself. All files means hidden / system files. Not txt in a txt file

But checking that box makes it search the contents and it successfully finds the phrase "asdf" in my file when it is called new.txt.

But it can't when I change the extension to something else (eg new.x)

So you're saying there is no way windows 7 can list all (*.*) files containing the text "asdf"?

Windows search is crap - get Agent Ransack, it finds everything, and txt within files.

WinXP can find text within files.
