Just use any partiton manager CD, boot from CD, wipe all partitions - clean.

Something like Gparted Download ISO (http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php)

For all intense purposes the drives completely empty. If someone with the right software and experiance, they could get the data back, but generally its safe. If you wanted to make sure 100% then yes DBAN- to over write the drive with 0's ( but its not quick)

Linux Cd's are very useful.

Had to use a Live Ubuntu last weekend on a customers HP - failed Western Digital Black drive, Windows wouldn't see it, the original PC simply hung.

Ubuntu managed to read the drive - all bar VERYYYYYY slowly, but managed to copy the data off.

How Slow ???? 4GB from the drive to an external USB drive took from 5pm Saturday afternoon to 9am the next morning - But it got it ok :):sleep
