Have an HP Photosmart C5180. Has 6 colour cartridges.
Sometime ago green shade (as in grass) changed to dark khaki. (hadn’t just changed cartridge).

Did “Self test Diagnostic Page”. All colours print and % ink supply ranges between 49-66%.
Compared it to one done year ago and both light cyan and cyan are different.
Old one has them as light and dark turquoise, now its light and dark lilacly purple.

Did Nozzle test print (not nozzle clean, couldn’t find that) All colours print.
Light cyan prints okay like the one in old diagnostic test but Dark cyan does not, its the dark purply like one in new diagnostic test

Did another “Self test Diagnostic Page and ink levels dropped so its is using it.
Changed both light and dark cyan to new cartridges still same problem
All are non HP except for pink and all others work okay, and have been using the non Hp for a few years.

Obviously something wrong with Dark Cyan, but also cant understand why Light cyan prints okay in nozzle test but not Diagnostic test.
Also done clean printheads

Anyone any clues what to do

Swap the suspect cartridges.

Have replaced both light and dark cyan already.
Just tried swapping Dark cyan with yellow.
Results for diagnostic test still the same.
yellow prints under yellow heading.
I thought yellow would print under Cyan heading?

Then swapped magenta for yellow
yellow prints under yellow heading still.
So the position of cartridge in printer doesnt matter
Also tried drawing yellow and red in paint, with cartridges swapped.
Yellow still prints the yellow drawing and red the red.

So Something in software links the physical cartridge colour ??
Now:confused: really confused

Welcome to the reason I hate inkjets :)

Personally I would just bin it, if you cant fix it with a new cartridge just not worth playing around with the heads etc..

Note well: Particularly with non HP brands: There is a reservoir of ink within the Print Head, in addition to the ink cartridge which sits above the print head.
When you swap tanks around you will initially be still printing from the well of ink already in the print head... in other words you will not immediately see the effects of swapping ink cartridges.

Some HP brands (or all?) now incorporate a print head within the ink tank - in which case the above does not apply. However...

The key thing with cyan is that it is actually a copper based particle, and is far more prone to blocking the print heads than the other colours which can get away with a properly soluble dye which is not so blockage prone.

Are yes, well after swapping only did one test pg so it may change after using ink reservoir up.
So how do I manually clear the print heads.?. Already tried the printer opnion of cleaning heads that it runs itself..
If its blocked why would it still print on test pg but be wrong shade, ink still coming out??

Does it use ink bladders? Maybe one of the print heads is stuffed...

Um no idea just them plug into printer, you can see the ink in back, which on many of them is clear plastic
