Seeing a post re the Galaxy S down the page made me wonder if anyone has upgraded the OS of a NZ Samsung 5800 to 2.2. They currently run 2.1 (Eclaire) Both Vodafone and Samsung said the upgrade would be available soon when I bought it. Soon is stretching out rather long with the usual both blaming the other for the delay.

I know of a site (sams.com) where some people have done an upgrade themselves on the European version without having to root the phone first. Any ideas on any differences in the NZ version please knowledgable people?

I want 2.2 to be able to make full use of my bluetooth. Full voice control of phone over bluetooth. Only available in Android from 2.2 on.

You can do the update with Odin if you have the firmware files.

I did it to an 'updated' 2.1-update1 version which had a GPS fix for a friend, I found it on xda-developers.

It's not terribly difficult to upgrade the Samsungs using Odin, and I've deliberately *tried* to brick my i9000, but can always recover using Odin, so you should be fine :)
