I recently bought a CD RW Drive and now I would like to backup my system, Win98, which has been unusually stable for several months now. Can someone please tell me what I should backup. I Zipped the windows folder 985 MB and got it on one CD with over 50 MB to spare. What else?

You really need to do a clean install of windows, 985mb is huge (mine is 299MB after 6 months), all the rubbish in there is probably causing most of your problems.

There are two types of backup you can do, a complete image of your system with a program like msbackup.

Or to backup only your documents, e-mail, addressbook, MP3s etc. And not any programs etc, because they can be reinstalled later (I also keep a copy of any installers for programs i've downloaded).

The advantage of not backing up programs is you can do a clean install. Although it takes longer to restore.

Check your windows/temp folder.
Delete everything in it.
That might be why you are so bloated.

You think his is big. My windows folder is 1.67GB.

Invaluable things to back up are your address book, favorites, My Docs, maybe inbox/sent items if you want a copy of them (right click on it to find stored location), Windows preferences.
