Hi Team,
My system is dead with the following report.....

Stop C0000263 Driver entry point not found in driver NTOSKRNL.exe X.
(the X at the end of that is a yellow heart).
Loaded the entry point IoForwardIrp synchronosly.
|sysroot\sys32\drivers\aswsnx.sys device driver could not be found.

No new h/ware or s/ware has been installed in the last 12 months and the system has been stable all that time.

I have tried several time to "repair" the system with the emergency repair disk and with the source cd.

I can boot up from a backup dual boot drive and read all my data from the problem disk OK.
All programs and data works without fail on this backup system.

System is a P4-2.53: 2Gb ram: 2x 80 Gb HDD, Main and backup.
Win2K pro on both drives.

Where do I go to from here ?

I don't relish the thought of formatting and re-installing the "C" drive and all the programs only to find I still have the same fault.

Any idears anyone ?

Cheers,

Speedy Gonzales

Uninstall Avast if aswsnx.sys is crashing. It belongs to that. Or connect the hdd to something else delete aswsnx.sys. Or put tdsskiller on a bootable flash drive (http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/solutions?qid=208280684)

Then run it. See if its a rootkit

Hi Speedy,
I un-installed Avast and later ran tdsskiller.
Unfortunately neither solved my problem, tdsskiller found nothing.

Perhaps a format and re-install is the only option do you think ?

Incidently, my backup system has the same Avast installed on it without any problem ver 5.0.396. Not sure the ver on the failing m/c.

I found a several orphan asw.... files belonging to Avast.
My problem was solved once I deleted these and then repaired windows.

Many thanks for your help.

Phil.

Run this as well (http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility). See what happens. If you uninstalled Avast, whats crashing now?

Hi Speedy,
I have no problem now, my m/c is fixed.

I still have my friends notebook to look at, probably this afternoon or evening.
Cheers,
Phil.
