Our desktop PC had some virus issues and after we had run AVG and SpyBot our broadband connection failed. Message reads” No TCP/IP could be found” - or similar – and when I look at the property settings there are no numbers. Is this is as it should be? What number should I be seeing? I have tried a restore, after the restore has completed the n=message read” No changes were made “. I am not sure if a restore has been done or if there is still a virus/ malware still in the system. Any help offers much appreciated.:help:

Was it a rootkit? What version of windows is it?? If tcpip.sys is missing you should be able to extract it from the cd/dvd if you have it

Sorry - I should have advised we are running XP SP3. Not sure what a "rootkit" is ?
How would I go about extracting the TCP/IP from the CD which we do have - Legit copy .

I would try running winsock fix, that will reset TCP/IP protocols.

If winsock fix doesnt fix it, put the cd in then go to the I386 folder.

Copy tcpip.sy_ put it on the hdd somewhere. Then open a command prompt, cd to the folder you copied this file to.

Then type expand tcpip.sy_ c:\windows\system32\drivers\tcpip.sys
