Just reinstall Vista Home Pem from HDD recovery utility and now the 'speaker' icon has a X - no audio output device is installed.

There isn't any switch to turn it ON/OFF.

Right click it, select playback devices, right click on the speakers you want to use and click enable. You will probably have to click on the blank space and select 'show disabled devices'.

You will need to install drivers for the device first

Get them from the HP website http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=1842155

It's working now after I installed SP1 & SP2.

Thanks.

SP1/2 Probably had the drivers packaged.

if you really want getting the proper drivers from the manufacturers website will be better however the MS ones will do it fine.

I reinstalled from HP's recovery partition so the drivers should be installed correctly.

Thats weird that those drivers did not get installed if you used the recovery utility/partition. Usually if you use the recovery which came with the PC all the drivers are included.

Indeed, that is unusual. Perhaps there was an error in the install package for the driver?
