Outlook Express has suddenly stopped being accesable !!

Has always given no trouble and all the account settings are in place.

Clear Mail of course is not working either.

I know we have just had another of f/ing aftershocks, but then there has been over 1684 of the damn things with no probs.

What do you mean by "stopped being accessible"? What sort of error messages are you seeing in Outlook Express?

Go to Tools/Accounts and select Properties
Select Servers at the top
Retype your password in the box and Save and ok at the bottom.
If that does not work you must be using the wrong password.

Safari, thanks for your reply.

Yes been through all that.

Have done the following as advised by Clear.

MSE
Spybot
MalwareBytes
Housecall ( this one has always been spot on)

What else can I try besides the "sledge hammer", lol.

Outlook Express has always been so reliable for us tooooo.

You sure you have the username correct.
Try logging into webmail to check if that works with your username and password.

As long as you are 100% sure of the user name and password, and it works OK via web mail, if still playing up.

Go into Outlook Express/ accounts, select your account - delete it, close OE

Open OE, recreate the account -- Seen it countless times that all the details are correct, but wont work, wipe out the inf file ( Account) re enter it and it all works again.

Hi wainuitech, nope !!.

Either Clear or TelstraClear have an online chat line, our daughter used it to setup our broadband connection.

It's being elusive too, lol.

We don't like their answer phone help either.

Just to be clear (no pun intended) :)

The Internet works fine

The web mail via their site - you can log in and see any mails etc ?

Are you with Clear Net internet now doing your emails? Or are you with another ISP?

Remember your login name it's not joe.blogs@clear.net.nz - it's just joe.blogs

Also check the Security settings - make sure nothing it ticked for secure connections - "this server requires authorization" or "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)"etc. Are they set to ports 25 & 110 ?

wai, it's no fun when things have worked just fine for years.

As mentioned earlier, have logged into Clear and the same response, cursed for/next loop, thought they went out with Basic programming.

Found the TelstaClear online talk facility, you guessed it, one has to phone when dealing with passwords. (as if we would keep the same one, lol as Forest Gump would say (stupid is as ****).

Will have lunch before we ring, as it will probably be teatime before I get a real person.

Thanks folks.

Nomad, yes been with Clear for 7 years, on Paradise prior to that.

GMail is another secondary email provider coming through to Outlook Express.

As said earlier Outlook Express has been running faithfully for years.

Thanks folks.

TelstraClear reset my password at their end.

So how would that get c**ked up at their end.

Only 42 emails downloaded, so that's not too bad for a Friday.

Thats one thing they have never managed to explain.

Had it a few times with customers, we call Telstra ( or extra if they are with them or who ever their ISP is) Tell them to check the password.
You give the "known Password" to the person you are talking to, they say it works at their end, yet doesn't when trying normally via the mail program or web based ???
Reset the password and alls well and working again ----- one of those things I spose.

There have been cases where Google Chrome had been installed and then removed, taking one of the library (dll) files required by Outlook with it.
If this is the case, reinstalling Chrome should fix it.
