Hi there!
Have received an offer from Orcon by mail. I'm now on Telecom 5gig plus landline for $83 monthly plan.
Orcon offers 30 Gig plus landline for $70 per month.
I'm at Mt Albert St Lukes area, new site. Perhaps has optical cabling?
What do you think?
Thanks

They don't have a 30GB. They have a 25GB. And it's if you are on their own equipment. Are you? Go to their website and enter your ph number in their search tool, you might be, you might not.
http://www.orcon.net.nz/home/plans/

Also note the $80 25GB says no phone line. The one with phoneline says $110.

Just checked my phone line. It timed out several times before it came into action.

Looks good, too bad i'm too cheap to afford that and its almost useless to me anyway since I'm only home 2x weekends a month, I only use about 20gb :(

I still can't get over the fact there are no data caps in china though, epic awesome ($30NZD for 2mbps)

China also has 100x more people per square-meter than we do. Or something to that effect...

Looked up their website. 30 gig indeed $97, and renting modem another $10.
Telecom offers 10 gigs for $105, but for home plan at $83 is 5 gigs, but total cap 40Gig after upgrade.
What does it means?

Is this deal a no brainer? It's not traffic shaped right?

At preset, I am paying a bit more than that for 10GB ....

Chilling_Silence

No it's not shaped in any way. Exceed and you just pay-per-GB.

So it's not possible to rate limit?

6.2 If you are on a plan with a specified data allowance you will be charged for any data in excess of that allowance at the rates set out on our website

6.3 If you are on an Orcon Broadband flat rate plan which provides for a fixed data allowance and no overage, where you exceed your monthly data allowance your connection speed will be reduced to a maximum of dial up speed once you reach your monthly data allowance.

not sure what the "bestdealever" plan comes under... the "over 30 gig and throttled back to 64k" or not

phoneline plus 30 gig for $81 looks like a damn good deal tho

I'll let you know mid May when my current ISP billing cycle ends. Orcon offer ends end of May.

I'm not planning on changing back to Orcon.

Why you may well ask?

I moved from Telecom so you did not get "any nasty surprises" on your bill. No data cap.

Then Orcon sent me an email that contained a nasty surprise.

The plan I had went from $60.00 per month to a little over $100. So I'm now back to Xtra and have been for some time now.

So "bestdealever" may change at their whim at anytime. Suit yourself. It will not become my problem anyway.

I used to be with Orcon. I went over to Actrix and am paying $40.84 per month for 10 Gb. My phone is with Telecom.

JFYI, I signed up. It didn't give me the option of choosing capped rate or pay the excess. I read the fine print and it does say any excess usage will incur more $$$, should not be that hard to maintain, the 30GB is cheaper than my 10GB at present. After 12 months I can just switch again ... I don't use their email address anyway ..

Unused data is not carried over to the next month.

Unless you're 2degrees, it generally doesn't, nothing out of the ordinary there ;)

Is a week enough for the switch to take place, cos that's when my new billing begins.

Usually yes, 3-5 "working days", though they've been doing customers in less than that in many cases lately.

I am with Orcon Gold plan 20GB Broadband and Phone. All New Zealand calls are free and overseas calls very reasonable.
By monthly bill averages $104.00 depending on the number of overseas and cell phone calls.

Help service is very good. My problem is that I am too far from the server. A Cabinet is due to be installed in September which should improve things.

I've switched over.

Well Actrix emailed me to confirm the switch. I kind of felt bad cos Actrix has been v v good, no problems can I fault them. Never any queues on the phone and all be v professional and v clear in their speech.

When i rang Orcon, the person wasn't that clear. It did take Orcon a wee while more to put the BB on active after my prev ISP was disconnected. When I switched to Actrix - it was all automatic right thru ... Add the username in and it was already all go ..

Unfortunately the deal was so good with Orcon, esp the unmetered sites. Never had I had the freedom to watch whatever I wanted.

Speeds the same but on TV on Demand - less congestion with Orcon. I could download Masterchef Masterclass at full speed while Actrix was only at 100KB/sec.

No dispute on the above.

But I think their Govt is more efficient and more productive than ours.
