I have recorded the program both from my TV card in mpg (ts) format and through my top box in mpg (ps) format. They are both just over an hour long. I can view the two lovely young ladies talking about tech gadgets in the middle of each recording.

I have tried importing the recordings into my movie editors Serif MoviePlus X5 and Windows Movie Maker so that I can cut out everything but the important part and upload it. Both the movie editors import the files but will not let me move the file to timeline so that I can play and edit it.The PS version is 1.84 GB while the TS version is 1.4 GB. I can play them in VLC Media Player. A codec problem I think.

Siobhan Keogh

Blast, only found out about this thread now. Was at work until 5.20 anyway.

Bobh, if you open the .ps and .ts files in VLC and click on codec information, what does it come back with? I might be able to transcode it for you.

Bobh
30-03-2011, 08:02 PM
I have managed to open the recording in Windows Live Movie Maker. I am about to cut it down to the important part and will export it (heres hoping). I'll keep you informed.

Except for their STUPID keyboards which have the "Fn" key on the left hand side of the Ctrl key - unlike any other manufacturer keyboard.

Makes for VERY frustrating copy/paste!

Are you there as a rep of PCWorld, or as a techie?

A lot of other magazines, tend to post the vids of their reps being interviewed on tv shows (or reviewing things) on their websites, I always kind of assumed it was one of those dual publicity things, the tv show shows gets a credible rep and the magazine gets credible exposure that can be checked out by those perusing their site.

Mind you I donn't know if any of these PCWorld reps can top Jan Birkelands porno mustache, on breakfast during Movemeber

Mine is being uploaded to Utube at the moment. It is currently 33% complete but it is very slow to upload. Fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong this time. I lowered the resolution hoping to get a faster upload.

Last night I left it to upload while I was sleeping. The computer did an automatic update and rebooted so I lost everything and had to start from scratch again this morning.

Just as well I did two recordings. During the first attempt to edit the recording I found that the audio and video were out of synch. You could see soldiers running through forests with Siobhan's voice describing the gadgets. I abandoned that edit and found that the other recording was in synch.

Thank you! I could tell it was going well as we were doing it. When I watched it back I noticed a couple of little performance things I could've improved but since I'm doing it weekly I can always fix it next week!

Are you there as a rep of PCWorld, or as a techie?

I'm introduced as Siobhan from PC World. You're right, it's beneficial for both parties (and for me personally, in terms of my "brand"/skillset etc.). If people are interested then they're more likely to seek out the magazine or website, of course, and the show gets to show off gadgets without seeming like they don't know anything. It's a win-win.

Bobh - thanks for your efforts! You're a champ.

@Bobh what was the actual run time of the whole thing before you edited out songs/ads?

I set the recorder to start at 4 pm and finish at 7 pm, a total of three hours. I saw that Siobhan had in fact come on at 4:30 pm so I shut the recording off early which meant that I only recorded one and a quarter hours. Siobhan was on for approx 8 minutes with an advert break in the middle. I edited the advert or music break out. Total time including the advert break may have been up to 15 minutes.

Just watched it now, very nice.

One thing I've found when speaking in that situation (I've done a bit of radio work, plus a small spot on TV, plus loads of public speaking - small conference style), is to have an outline, it helps you keep the "Umm"s down, I noticed a lot of them. Also saw you mild jitters just at the start, but other than that, great job!

The other woman didn't seem to know anything :p

In her defence, while she didn't know what dual-core meant, she knew more than she let on. It's her job to act like she doesn't know anything so I can come across as the "expert" :P Like when she asked what you use a tablet for, that's because prior to the interview I told them I wanted to talk about what a tablet is actually good for. She isn't a tech journo though, she's a music TV presenter, so we can't expect her to understand processors!

I did actually have an outline, and a lot of what I said I had rehearsed earlier that day. Actually what I had rehearsed I mostly said toward the start and when we went to the break and they wanted to continue it into another segment I was a little anxious because I hadn't planned on saying much else, but we sorted out what we were going to talk about before going on air and funnily enough I think I came across better in the second half! I just think it's going to take time to be more comfortable in front of the camera.

Are you on a panic delay or whatever it's called (time for someone to hit the "what the **** she saying" button) before hitting the air waves? If so, how did you cope with it? I recall for a dare doing a live news reading on Hauraki when they were first land based. I couldn't get past the first 20 seconds because through an open door, I could hear myself delayed. Because I wasn't expecting it, it was decidedly unnerving. Did you have the same thing or was it in real time?

Siobhan Keogh
04-04-2011, 08:37 AM
I don't think so, but the volume was down on every TV so I couldn't hear myself back. I don't know whether the TVs were playing a feed of what we were doing in real time though or what was going on air.
