Seeing as Nelson is finally (Yay! :D) getting Freeview|HD soon, I thought it's probably about time to get a UHF aerial. I was having a look on Alkris and noticed some aerials say they only receive, for example, channels 27 - 69. I couldn't find the info about which channels freeview is being broadcast or will be broadcast on, does anyone (apsattv probably) :p know if there are some UHF aerials that may not receive all the freeview channels?

I was looking at something like this (http://alkrisshop.shopnz.biz/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=463_50&products_id=14340), looks pretty funky. Are they as good as for example this (http://alkrisshop.shopnz.biz/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=463_50&products_id=1257)?

Thanks. :)

PS - I assume it will be broadcasting from Grampians? If so the distance is 30km with the occasional tree in the way.

I use a similar one to your second link. Made by Hills purchased from Dick Smith. It works well. Dick Smith has on line the requirements in different areas for Free View.

pretty sure any UHF tv aerial will receive all freeview channels, below channel 27 is likely VHF (can't be bothered looking it up). The only real consideration is the physical mounting requirements and the gain, in good reception areas you can get away with almost any aerial.

Bit convoluted but you can find the frequencies on freeviews website, and you should be able to google NZ tv channel frequency list to see what numbers they relate to.

Lucky you Mot is away from the hills so you will actually get UHF, not us being close up under the Grampian's not much chance

Bugger, that sucks. Do you get anything at the moment from there?

We can get prime on UHF but the other stations are like snow storms. So we use freeview satellite using the old sky dish which was on the house when we bought it

If the signal isn't too bad you could try making one of these: http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2009/01/maker-workshop-dtv-antenna-steadyca.html

Seems pretty cheap!

Which site are you getting Prime from on UHF, as Prime only broadcast in Nelson from Mt Campbell and Kaka Hill, you should be able to find Maori tv there also, I think on channel 35 and 37.

If you can get Prime you will get Freeview HD from either site once it starts.

That's good to know, I think we might get Maori as well will have to have another look, but since we use the dish we basically don't bother with the aerial

So Freeview HD will be broadcasting from Mt Campbell and Kaka Hill rather than Grampians? Kaka hill is up by Walter's Bluff, right?

Nofam - Even Mot is getting ADSL2 in December! :D It was going to be June next near, but as Chorus say, things are humming along.

:

Correct

Same sites, that Maori,Prime and TV3 come off

No tv will come off the Grampians once Analogue switches off! Kordia did not get the contract.
