View Full Version : What Can I Do To Speed Up My Broadband Connection?

02-03-2011, 09:01 PM
My broadband connection appears to be slowing down. Frequently when I attempt to access a site it seems to load about of the way and then slows to almost nothing.

Are there a few adjustments that I can make to speed it up?

I am running XP and use Firefox.

Thanks for your help.

Who are you with?? If youre with Xnet, change ISP. You sure its the BB and not whats installed thats slowing things down? Did you tell your ISP?

I am with Telecom.

It's not every site. It appears to be sites that I rarely visit or perhaps visit for the first time. Sites such as F1 load quite quickly.

What sort of installed programmes would be slowing it down?

Malware / spyware for one. Maybe addons, depending on whats installed. And what browser you use. Ring them or check their site for any issues

Your home phone wiring could be at fault, as well as the number of phones connected in your home.

At the very least, try disconnecting everything from the phone line except your broadband connection.

Try running some speedtests (speedtest.net or many others). While they're certainly not an exact measure of your connection speed, they can be helpful to give some indication if there is a major problem.

Firefox isn't the quickest browser in the world, try Opera or Chrome.

regarding your question about speeding up FF, you can do this by turning on pipelining

Not saying that's anything to do with your particular slow page loads - but overall, it does make pages load much faster

here's a post I made showing how to check it and turn it on with a couple other tweaks as well.

Might pay to Run http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/ for speedy to check

Thank you, Lawrence. I have done so. How to I get Speedy to check it?

Thank you Bevy, I have done that as well. Will wait and see.
