Of all these years my computer decides to not read or recognize dvds it works well with cds and burns them really well. I just want to know what is causing this. I would google for the results but I trust the pc gurus here on PF1 will help.

The specs are Liteon dvd writer model ihas324 - 32 b

Have you tried the DVD's in another computer to make sure they read OK - if so, then I'd try another DVD drive on the PC, see if that reads them.

One of my liteons does the same in the workshop, its about two years old - some DVD's it simply wont read, others its fine, yet the same DVD will work perfectly on any other PC.

Have you installed any software then the problem started, some drivers have a negative effect on Optical drives.

One way to test the Actual Drive, just in case its a software problem, is make a bootable DVD of something, Eg: windows 7 recovery DVD - see if the DVD will boot from it on startup, if it wont the Drive is more than likely the problem.
