In development since 1997, what a joke. Dunno if I'll buy it might get the demo (if it doesn't take another 13/14 years to come out). Never really played duke nukem games.

BTW the Zero Punctuation for this game is funny.

I am considering Homefront currently but I would have to learn a lot more about the Duke game before I buy it.

Clearly no true DN fans in this thread. icow you realise that what is going to be released technically isn't what was in development 13/14 years ago? Studio went bankrupt, game was canceled etc.

Besides, this WILL change your mind (imo one of the best game trailers ever made) (or maybe that's just cuz I'm a DN fan)

"from what we've seen the game hasn't been able to develop him beyond the same old swaggering Duke from the mid-nineties.

If this is all that there is to him, there's no chance of players being able to care about his fate for the full length of a game. "

I loved the original and am definately interested in this, but after waiting so long it has to be truly awesome or people will be dissapointed. With all the push for realism in modern games I think developers need to make more games that don't take themselves seriously.

pre ordered the balls of steel ed the day it was available - ive only waited since 1997 for it so i can wait another 25 days ;)

i like how it has ruffled so many feathers - peta going mental cause there is a picture of a dog with the areas of meat you can use for "dukeburgers" bored hosewives have gone mental cause of the language and the fact you can pick turds out of the toilet and write on the wall with it\throw it at people like a monkey - and womens rights people have gone spear cause in the MP "capture the babe" matches you occasionally have to slap the flag i mean babe to quieten her down as you carry her back to base

if anything the enraged people haveing a huge whinge about it just make the game so much more wanted :D

I was thinking of awaiting reviews from other players before deciding on buying this title, but the quote above has almost sold me on the game already!

I love off-colour / un-PC humour.

Shades of the old Duke's "shake it baby" - but with a tad more objectifying thrown into the mix.

Women shouldn't complain however at being objectified (to the level of a flag) - at least they're being portrayed as an object worth fighting for.

Anyway, it's the fighting after you've got one that remains the greatest challenge to mankind.

They've learnt from Microsoft - release the software, let the consumers find the bugs, and then in between the time spent counting the money from all the sales they might have a go at creating an update to fix some of the bugs... about 1GB download seems typical if Steam is anything to go by.

Ok I bought the Game from The Warehouse.
Despite the install files being on the disk....
It wants to download the game from Steam.
6gig download even though I bought the install DVD

huh ???
I cannot play the game off the DVD.

Next time I'll just pirate the thing. Great way to put off legit buyers.

For those with install issue: if steam wants to download the whole game via interent.

Just keep running the install from the DVD (setup.exe). May take quite a few re-install attempts untill it decides to install from DVD instead of 6Gb internet download.
No thanks for steam help files. Found the fix on another forum.

This may be the last game I ever buy. Just soo much easier to pirate the things . even though I'd rather not.

Steam has it's good points but I'd agree that it's more of an annoyance than anything.

Anyway, game arrived from Mighty Ape on friday. I played it over the weekend and am enjoying it. There are a few bits I don't like and the graphics while good aren't amazing by today's standards.

There is a lot of profanity, nudity(well close), one liners, toilet humour - all as expected :) The weapons so far are all very familiar RPG, Devastator, Railgun, ripper, shotgun and a few others, I just found a shrink ray :) You are limited to carrying two weapons at a time so when you find a new one you have to discard one to equip it.

There are times when you have to spam the space bar to open doors etc - they should not have done that as it's no fun at all. Also finding your way out of an area can sometimes be frustrating with no in game indication of where to go. Then again I just spent an hour driving a monster truck, running down pig cops and jumping over obstacles with turbo boost. Great Fun.

I'd forgotten the satisfaction of lobbing pipebombs at things, or chucking a tripmine in the path of incoming enemies :)

All in all a fun game for those who are not easily offended, definately not for the kids so take the R18 rating seriously. After 14 years of waiting it couldn't possibly live up to the expectations, but forget that and it's pretty good. I'd rate it 7.5~8 / 10

Didn't play all that many hours over the weekend and averaged about 1 hour a night, finished it in 6 days. It seems the better graphics get the shorter the games are :(

I did enjoy it though, enough like the original for nostalgia but a lot cruder.
I will definately play it again but I am dissapointed at the length of it. In the good old days of wolfenstein, doom 1 & 2, Duke Nukem 3D games seemed to be much longer. In fact I never actually legitimately finished doom 2, it was so long and got very difficult at the end and I ended up cheating to finish the final level.

Yeah I was like that with Croc. Spent days getting to the level before the final one and just couldn't do it. Mediocre graphics by todays standards though, but significantly longer game.

Then again, Borderlands wasn't specifically 'short'?

Yeah a lot of games these days seem too short... Maybe we're just too good at playing them?

Most likely they just make them too easy as well... Like ZeroPunctuation said, Valve focus-tests the crap out of everything and if you're caught staring at a wall for too long they put a giant arrow on it to make sure you know where to go.

Same with Demons Souls, it tried to king the King Allant in the end but couldnt melee him, he was too strong. Ended up sneaking up (as suggested online) poisoning him and waiting 20 minutes.....bit of a cheat

i've watched a couple reviews about it/gameplay videos on different sites and tbh i think i would be disappointed if i brought it, regardless of the price.

doesnt really do anything for me

i dont get the bad reviews - i thought it was awesome - Duke is back and better than ever - leaving the whole thing open for a sequel

and the thing is - most of the bad press is "a game that wasnt worth the 12 years"

now that the Duke nukem forever name is done and dusted - its a fresh slate - a fresh start to start the next one - new ideas not just rehashes and restarts like DNF had during its whole time during development

the new game wont have the stigma of "12 years" or "forever" attached to it

regardless ill be doing my 4th play through of it tonight :D

Those are some good points...

Assuming anyone is actually going to want to pay for development of another one!
