I have a little vb.Net application that communicates with a server (over the internet) every 30 seconds or so. However whenever it does the application locks up for 5-10 seconds while its doing its thing. Is there a way to let my application work over the net without locking up while its doing it?

Cheers,
Mike.

What part of the communication is causing it to hang? Resolving DNS? Running a database query? What's it actually doing...?

Spin off a separate thread for the internet-communication bit if it doesn't have to be synchronous.

I'll run a debug on it later to see if I can figure out where it is hanging.

Thanks for your replies :)
