Uninstall Nvidia firewall aka ForceWare Network Access Manager. Its crap and can cause corrupted downloads

I dont know how you tick the entries with that program, but you can tick these entries

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SoundMAXPnP] C:\Program Files\Analog Devices\Core\smax4pnp.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SoundMAX] "C:\Program Files\Analog Devices\SoundMAX\SoundMAX.exe" /tray

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exe"

Uninstall all versions of java, theyre out of date. Then install the latest version ONLY

Then update Vista, there's no service packs. Then get ccleaner www.ccleaner.com install it then run it. So, it removes the temp files / etc

How much RAM do you have?

And I would ditch Advanced system care, it's not the best...

If you want something for 'cleanup' software hijackthis and ccleaner will do a good job, and you can scan for malware with malwarebytes.

Thats ok you have 32 bit, which cant address / use all of the 4 GB. You need 64 bit

Just to clarify to jalabama61, you don't need 64-bit Windows to fix your slow PC issue, but if you want to use your full 4GB of RAM you would need it.

Vista Without the updates / Service Packs is like driving down the road with the handbrake on :yuck:

You will find, once SP1 & SP2 have gone in, it will be noticeably faster.

My friend recently had his PC running very slowly, turned out his hard drive had over 1000 bad sectors, the drive was dying slowly and performance was very bad.

Bad clusters can also cause a PC to crawl, caused by improper program termination or shutdown. It's always a good idea to run CHKDSK to fix HD issues:

Or its running in PIO mode if anything is IDE

jalabama61
21-12-2010, 02:53 PM
what is PIO mode?

Speedy Gonzales
21-12-2010, 03:06 PM
PIO mode can cause a system to go slow. This can happen if there's a prob somewhere.

IDE devices usually run in DMA mode (which is faster), and hopefully, this is what yours is running in.

If you go to device manager, IDE ATA / ATAPI controllers then dbl click on the IDE channel entries. Whats it say under the advanced settings tab?? DMA or PIO for one or both?

DMA mode is enabled for one channel and the other one doesn't have anything in it.

Install SP1, 2 and the updates after you remove these. It might fix some things

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exe"

I would uninstall this

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Ai Nap] "C:\Program Files\ASUS\Ai Nap\AiNap.exe"

I already installed SP1, 2. If it's not showing in the log I don't know why, but my system shows that it's been installed. Will delete what you suggested. Thanks

If I can ask a silly question ... what have you got in the way of antivirus, malware, & spyware .... and when was the last time you did a full scan of the comp ??
