View Full Version : Cleaning computer & system restore

Hi peoples .... Helped out a friend (remotely) with her computer last night and found tons of nasties (special thanks to Speedy for doing the HJT log for me) ... however, I think I made an error by not disabling system restore before scanning everything.

Is there any way to delete the system restore files without having to go through the disable and rescan ???

Scanned with MSSE, Malwarebytes, Spybot, Trojan Remover and cleaned out temp files and registry with CCleaner

Any advice would be appreciated.

Which OS are you running?

In XP, turn off system restore and reboot, then re-enable it. In 7, you can just go into system protection and hit configure, you can wipe the points from there. Can't remember the exact method in vista but it will be similar to those two.

You can disable SR but you may have to show all files / system files. Then give yourself access / permission to get into the system volume information folder/s. Since its locked / you'll get aaccess denied error if you dont do the above
