OK here is a question that shows my thickness when it comes to the internet and broadband. Currently using the telecom thomson tg576 which keeps dropping out.A friend has a netgear wgr614 v7 does this do the same as the thomson or does it need a modem. If it is OK to use is it worth making the change ?

No, this would require a modem as well. I can vouch for the Netgear DG834 wireless router though. I have had it for about 4 years now without any issues. It could be other issues than your modem/router though. Have you asked your ISP to check your line? If not, ring them and get them to run diagnostics.

Those Thompson routers from Telecom are cheap and they crap out real quick

As DaveBritton said, that Netgear model you mentioned doesn't do ADSL, so you would still have to use an additional device alongside it.

If you're going to replace it, look at a Netcomm NB6Plus4Wn.

I'm with gary67, they're budget, ditch it ... :D

I can't say that from my little router/modem ST585. It has been working flawless for a few years. I have placed it on a large stone slab on a desk and never has overheated.

I'd consider yourself lucky then, many people don't share your same fate :p

Thanks Folks, thought that would be the case but thought no harm in asking might have saved a dollar :2cents:
