P5Q-Pro mobo, Win7 64bit. Connected to switch via ethernet for Internet access.

Trying to figure out what I did wrong when connecting an esata device.
I installed the supplied bracket with esata port on it and connected the bracket's sata cable to a spare sata socket (not raid pair).

Then I connected the supplied esata cable from the bracket port to the esata device.

Powered up comp and W7 flagged a new network choice needed. Network set to Public so changed it to Work.

No Internet connection. Could ping switch and other comps were fine.

Unplugged esata cable from device. Still no Internet. Re-booted - no better.

Powered off again and removed sata to bracket cable and all came right.

Really puzzled how an unconnected sata cable could kill the Internet connection.

Any ideas, please?

Just plugged the esata bracket and esata cable into my identical setup and no problem with network. But, haven't plugged a sata device to it yet.

The bracket wasn't shorting on something and stopping it ?

Sounds like whatever you plugged it into the 1st time thinks its a network adapter when it isnt. It may have changed it to the default network adapter. Change it

Pretty sure not, WT

Sounds sort of feasible, Speedy, but one would think re-booting after unplugging the device would remove the problem.

Guess I will have to re-visit and try things one at a time. Or, leave it on USB!!
