The article kinda suggests he had saved 2000 pounds per year for over 40 years, and was carrying all this lot around... unless they have 500 pound or 1000 pound notes, then this guy must have been carrying quite a bale of paper!

Which leads me to conclude there's some exaggeration going on.

Have to confess, I've driven off with my wallet on the roof of the car... right after filling the darn thing with $500 bucks!
All I got back was the wallet and cards. No cash.

No exaggeration needed; assuming it's all in 100 notes, that's only 800 of the things over 40 years (20 notes per year). 800 notes in anyone's currency is usually small enough to be crammed in a decent sized pocket.

Probably all in 50's as that's the biggest value note over there. At least it wasn't all in Euro's worthless piece of currency

The price you pay for stupidity.

I would prefer a 1000 euros to a 1000 pounds.

I wouldn't be too hard on him, you only need to look whats happening in Ireland atm where the banks could have collapsed if the EU had not bailed them out.

If the Aussie housing bubble pops at a "rapid" rate in the near future, I will be looking at our mostly Aussie banks very closely.

Millions of people lost there life saving in Argentina through there banks only about 10 years ago, it happens.

The point was, the euros will buy you quite a few beers more.

Ok sorry my mistake I thought the pound was worth more than a EuroIt is. Currently, 1 GBP == 1.1785 EUR, and therefore pounds will purchase more beer than euros.
