Doesn't it only come up if you click on the site text/snippet or the magnifying glass?

if you click on the txt in below the link, by accident, which I tend to do when reading the txt below the link, it will then come up for every search link you hover the mouse across.

Was so much better, the old google .

The porno/pirate sites are going to love this, images to their sites will auto load up just so much easier for those now not REALLY carefull with the mouse ( young kids perhaps)

google search preferences gives no option to disable it (that I can see)

EDit: same PC:mozilla has it, IE7 doesnt (yet ??)

Well don't click in the text then, that is what the link is for.

I found this remedy to turn it off and restore the "old" Google, it seems to work:

Edit: for Firefox

Well don't click in the text then, that is what the link is for.

I click on nothing, just the mouse cursor running over the text brings up a shitty window with "no preview available" written in it.

Pure genius :annoyed:

And I'm about as interested in logging into a search engine just to make it stop being retarded as I am in a punch to the nads.

And as I clear my browser of crap on a daily basis I'd have to be logging in all the damn time.

Google is starting to suck to much balls for its own good.

Easiest way I found to kill that auto preview garbage is for firefox, If you don't already have it, Install <a href="https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/1865">Adblock Plus</a>

In your Preferences - Add a filter to block
|http://www.google.com/extern_js/*

Kills instant too.. which I personally hate also..

Can't block the magnifying glass though, If you do it will kill the google logo. if you care about their logo.

This way I don't have to abide by their preferences panel. or login

If you use Firefox or Chrome, there is an addon called Stylish which allows you to load custom css styles for sites.
Stylish for Firefox (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2108/)
Stylish for Chrome (https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/fjnbnpbmkenffdnngjfgmeleoegfcffe)

Opera also has an inbuilt feature for loading custom css styles.

I made a userstyle to disable Google Preview:
http://userstyles.org/styles/39726

And one to disable Google Star:
http://userstyles.org/styles/39788

As well as one to remove the sidebar and other junk:

Disable it under prefs on google.com. Or dont use a browser that uses it

Use opera browser. It will diable all google eye candies including the Image browsing. But of course you can set opera to be detected as another browser and turn on all those previews and other stuff.
