Every time Thunderbird gets updated it is like a different program.

Is there any way to save my settings so I won't have to spend hours getting it back to the way I like it?

Not sure if this page helps: http://www.ehow.com/how_2224367_email-settings-mail-windows-pc.html

I'm afraid there is nothing helpful there.

I want to save settings on the same computer.

How are you doing the updates.
If you go to Help in Thunderbird and select Check for Updates and let it update no settings should change.

If you have a look here (http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/Profiles#Backing_up_a_profile) it will tell you how to back up your profile.

If you are using add-ons from non-Mozilla authors then you can expect some problems occasionally. Although many authors do try to keep their add--ons up to date with changes to the basic T'Bird there's a risk that some authors may be on holiday or otherwise engaged when there's a new version.
However, I've got several add-ons and updates generally don't worry me.

That should do it. Thanks.
