according to the manual i should be able to get 3 monitors running using 2 x DVI and 1 x displayport. I bought an active displayport to hdmi adaptor but everytime i try and activate a 3rd monitor i get the message one of the other 2 displays must be disabled. I have tried different configurations with cables and monitors. I have 2 x samsung syncmaster p2370 23" lcd and one dick smith 19" GE6429 hd ready lcd tv.

Have you installed the latest drivers?? Have a read of some of this

http://www.amd.com/US/PRODUCTS/TECHNOLOGIES/AMD-EYEFINITY-TECHNOLOGY/HOW-TO/Pages/faqs.aspx. I take it youre using Vista or Win7??

And I take it this is what youre seeing?

How many non-DisplayPort monitors can I use with an AMD Eyefinity technology-enabled graphics card?

You can connect up to two non-DisplayPort monitors at one time to an AMD Eyefinity technology-enabled graphics card using non-DisplayPort connections or passive DisplayPort dongles. To enable and drive 3 or more non-DisplayPort monitors at one time, the additional non-DisplayPort monitors must be connected with an active DisplayPort dongle.

at that price, no it's not. And as said on the FAQ above, display port to hdmi adaptors need usb power to be active. So double no it's not.
Get your money back I'd say, since actives are much more expensive than passives.
