View Full Version : Avatar file extension?

This JPEG image has the incorrect file extension
Does anyone know what file extension I'm suppose to have and how to turn it into the right file extension for my Avatar?

So under user CP you have selected edit Avatar then ticked the option to use a custom Avatar, just need to make sure the picture is only 80x80 pixels and no larger than 12Kb and it should work as a jpg

If you want to change the file extension you would need to open the file in a program which can save as a different file type

(NOT the same as just changing the extension - that will do nothing to the file format and just confuse applications which try to open it, they will expect what the extension says, but the content will be different)

MSpaint which comes with windows can save to BMP, PNG, JPG and probably something else as well

But as gary67 said, JPEG\JPG should work OK anyway...

My avatar works in other forums and it has a .jpeg file extention and is 2.7K so is it because I haven't made enough post in this forum?

I don't think so you have 49 posts which should be enough maybe contact one of the mods

Try renaming your jpeg to jpg and see if that makes a difference.

Have you tried a different image?

As gary67 mentioned, is it under 80x80? I'm unsure if it auto-resizes it ...

I thought at 2.73K there would be no problem but it was larger than 80x80 so I downsize it and it works. Who would think that 2.73K is to big in this day and age?

It's big when there's 80 posts per page and you're viewing from a Cellphone with a tiny data-cap each month. It adds up *very* quickly. A normal complete page with the iPhone / Cellphone skin I was hacking up earlier is only 5KB -> 8KB in it's completeness :D

I thought avatars would be turned off by default for the mobile version?

For this forum, it is.

Hence why it's <10KB per-page ;)
