Anyone found affordable options for using a mobile overseas? I'm just back from a trip in Europe and the Middle East and my HTC Snap on Telecom XT found a service provider just about everywhere I went. However, the astronomical roaming costs severely restricted my use of the phone. I took an old phone with me and bought a sim card in a couple of countries, but had to buy another sim for each country. Is there a better way?

You can join a local military organization and maybe they'll give you free minutes with a neat-o uniform. And a gun.

Try to visit countries that need invasion once you sign up.

Other than that - I got nothin'.

I think I forgot my medications today.

ALL day.

Maybe last night too.

A mate of mine recommends these guys: http://www.gosim.com/?gosimrow

However although the phone calls are reliable (and cheap) he said the SMS (both send and receive) couldn't be counted on. He was recently in France and Italy (lucky bugger!)

What's the chances of using Google-Phone?

I know it works between NZ and Anza, California.

There's also ekit (http://ekit.com/ekit/home/) which is what Contiki recommends for Europe. Haven't had a chance to compare it with any other providers yet, but I'm going to Europe for a few months at the end of the year so will be interested to hear what others have to say. :)
