View Full Version : Screen resolution wont do widescreen - driver issue?

23-10-2010, 07:56 PM
Hi all,

Just jumped on my flatmate's pc and its resolution is all wrong. When trying to adjust the resolution the moniter wants the resolution to be 1920 * 1080 but there is no option for this res (only 1920 * 1440). I went into the device manager and the display adapter adapter drivers aren't installed. Trying to install prompts for a cd which he doesn't have. Is there any way to find the correct drivers? Preferrably without having to open the pc case.

Might help if you tell us what the system / vidcard is. Use Everest or something like PC wizard, to see whats in the case

Uh yup roger that. The graphics card died and he took it out and is using the motherboard integrated graphics. Info from PC wizard:

Processor : Intel Pentium 4 @ 3000MHz
Physical Memory : 1024MB (2 x 512 DDR-SDRAM )
Video Card : VT82C570 MV IDE Controller VIA/S3 Unichrome Pro VGA Adapter
Hard Disk : Seagate ST380013 AS SCSI Disk Device (80GB)
DVD-Rom Drive : Toshiba-Samsung CD/DVDW TS-H552U
Network Card : VIA Technologies VT6102 Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter
Operating System : Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.01.2600 Service Pack 3 (32-bit)
DirectX : Version 9.0c (February 2006)

Thanks Speedy.

Is it a brand name comp?
Is it integrated graphics or a separate video card?
If integrated, are the motherboard drivers installed?
In either case, you need to download the driver/s from the manufacturer/s website if you don't have the disks.
Need more details.

Might be an Asrock

And the drivers

Hmm somehow I dont think that vidcard will handle / do HD. So, you need the 4-1 drivers, LAN, Audio and VGA. Forget the others, unless you use the AMR port, or RAID / the hdd in SATA

As speedy said, the boards 99% sure its an Asrock. Thats about the only make with that model number.

Cheers for the help guys. I managed to install the 4 in 1 driver but when I try to install the VGA driver it spits the following error:

Setup was unable to complete the installation. Check the progress log in your Windows directory for more details.

I don't know where to find the progress log.

So I tried to do it from device manager, pointing the installer to the directory I just downloaded, it asks for vtmini.sys so I direct it there, it tells me it hasn't passed Windows Logo testing so I click Continue Anyway. It asks for vtmini.sys so I point it again, then it tells me all these files already exist and are newer, I click replace anyway, then it spits an error saying it can't copy VTCfg3d.dll and that file isn't in the driver I just downloaded.

Any ideas?

Edit: If I just click cancel it gives me the option to continue install without the file, there's a bunch more files that it can't find, should I just go ahead without copying these files? I just don't want to break this computer...

Looks like the inf file, in that install doesnt match the videocard

Try these

http://www.viaarena.com/Driver/P4M800Pro-P4M800CE_220001u_XP_wIShld_logod.zip. Use ccleaner and remove all the temp files etc first. Did you reboot after installing the 4-1 drivers?

To run the monitor at 1920x1080 you will have to put in a proper graphics card. An integrated graphics card won't do it. You are wasting your time doing what is all mentioned above.

Ok well if its on the net do you want me to check it out with teamviewer?? Might be easier trying to find the right video driver

Install the updated chipset drivers then reboot then try the last download again

Hopefully those work, because nothing else did. The via site isnt the easiest site to find drivers

Video Card : VT82C570 MV IDE Controller VIA/S3 Unichrome Pro VGA Adapter

This is not a video card. Its an integrated chipset, Not very good either.

get a real card - low end is fine if you aren't gaming.

24-10-2010, 04:13 PM
Yes that is what I have been trying to till them.
