View Full Version : Telecom Users: DNS issues with Telecom ?

I've begun having some issues with Telecoms DNS lately.

To be honest I've not looked into it largely, but just wondering if anybody else has noticed it? It's begun in the last few days ...

For example, the following don't resolve:
www.cyanogenmod.com
www.opswat.com

Are there others on Telecom who *can* or *cannot* get to those sites?
I've had confirmation from other ISP's that they work, and they also work when I run them through megaproxy.com for example.

It's happening for me both at home and at work :-/

Cheers

Chill.

Hmm .. I've also had confirmation that they work on Orcon (Remoted into my parents place) and a friend who's with ICONZ.

Just got yet another friend to try on their Telecom business ADSL connection, and that failed too :-/

Cool, thanks FAB.

Confirmed by Telecom ... Logged Case # 21270697 :)

They're looking into it now, apparently somebody else had just rang and logged a similar job. Good stuff!

Still, a bit of a worry when first-level support have no idea what DNS is and have to google for the answer :-/ At least they put me promptly through to the right department, although they did try and ask me to restart my modem :p

Try changing to one of Telecoms other DNS servers - they have several.
I (rarely) have found in some cases, some work better than others

What IP do they both resolve to?

I could, but it's not just me that's affected. At work here for example we have our DNS servers use Telecoms, which means there's a few hundred staff here affected by it. Better to get Telecom to fix their problem, than for me to try and apply a short-term bandaid fix ;)

When you ping the addresses GameJunkie, what do they resolve to?

i got this

173.234.8.173 for www.cyanogenmod.com
and
'ping request could not find host www.opswat.com. Please check the name and try again"

i tried the link for the second site and it comes up with a "problem loading page error".

Yay the CM site is working :D

Don't really care about the second, was looking up a product, though I do care that the DNS isn't quite 100%...

This is interesting. I have a site that is with Telecom and I cannot access adobe.com. I thought it may have been a filtering issue on the IPCop box but nothing is logged and not having issue with other websites. Using Telecoms DNS.

I be interested in your findings.

Damn I spoke too soon. http://forum.cyanogenmod.com fails :(

Yeah adobe.com is fine here?

I'm changing IPCop over to Endian shortly so will see if that fixes the adobe problem.

Opswat is working for me now, and cyano says this:

Network Error (dns_unresolved_hostname)

Your requested host "www.cyanogenmod.com" could not be resolved by DNS.

For assistance, contact your network support team.

Bugger, I'm still getting issues trying to download the latest nightly build of the software:
mirror1.kanged.net/nightly/passion/cm_passion_full-216.zip

mirror1.kanged.net doesn't resolve :(

Chilling_Silence

@%#$
forums.cyanogenmod.com is not resolving again :(

Not impressed, but at least they're likely working on it right now, which is good I suppose :D

Yes, because I lodged a fault, both are working at the moment, but I'm not holding my breath they'll stay that way...

I've had issues with http://forum.cyanogenmod.com coming up and down all afternoon now, seems like they're still working on it :-/
