Ever tried it? Just another way of scrolling the page? What else is it for?

For FPS games, it can be used for jump/Crouch/Straffe.

Other applications are for triggering horizontal scrolls via the mouse wheel.

On a real OS it has a multitude of handy functions. ;)

Invaluable in FF, I open that many tabs...

Also good if you have software to map certain commands to certain buttons on your mouse.

You can get software that will map the ammount of "bumps" (there must be a technical name for that) and assign tasks or key presses. eg, 2x down = new document. forgot what it was called though. you enabled it by holding ctrl. quite useful at one point in time.

Are you referring to how the wheel naturally stops when you're rotating it?

What happens if you have one of those mouses where you can change it so it spins for pretty much ever (eg my Logitech)

200 spins = new document
etc

Found that with my Msoft Intellimouse middle wheel click brings up the Aero preview (Win7) from which I can select any open application. Also can be used for horizontal page scrolling (tilt wheel function on the mouse).........

I find PCs running the microsoft mouse software in default configuration very annoying - I middle-click a link & instead of opening the link in a new tab, it switches windows or brings up a window selection screen.
