My mate gave me this laptop to see if I could get it going cause he got a new one.
The laptop rarely starts fully to desktop most of the time it powers up nothing shows on the screen the fan goes full speed and that is it.
Has anyone else got this laptop and have the same problem?

Does it boot into safe mode?

I would use a linux livecd, failing that, time for eDay.
The T40 might be worth $300 I guess in working condition. Single core I think it is. 2004 era isn't it .. approx.

It will not even boot, wont post or anything, and the times it does it might get to desktop then the laptop acts like it is off but all the lights are on

I'm on my 4th Thinkpad from 5 laptops I had.
T40 is old, maybe it's time. If one looks after it, it may work but generally for most pple they just don't. Good years of service thou since 2004.

You might be able to flash the bios. When it's working that is.

Dead BIOS battery maybe and therefore not holding settings?
